Event Overview

Peaceful protest is a vital part of a democratic society. It is a very powerful campaigning tool and a driver of change to eliminate discrimination and create change for the good in our communities. We have a right to peacefully protest under the Human Rights Act 1998 however, it is not an absolute right and recent years have seen more political discussions and expanding legislation to clamp down on it, not least the new Police Powers and Protection Bill, which potentially could curtail protest in any form!

Join us to explore and discuss how Criminology helps us understand these issues and look at the role of the Police and Courts in dealing with protest.

This session will last around 2 hours, with plenty of time for audience discussion and questions.
