Andrew, originally from Southport, chose the University of Cumbria because of its long history of successful teacher training. He describes himself as passionate about education and regards RE as central to holistic development of young people.


Andrew says, “I enjoyed the level of support and expertise from staff, and meeting new people. Formal education has been a continuous aspect of my adult life. I have already obtained two BA (Hons) degrees and an MA. My PGCE cemented my interest in education and may very well prove to be the catalyst for further doctoral study.”


Andrew is currently enjoying a varied self-employed career as musician/recording artist/producer/lecturer. He says, “My career ambitions continue to be fluid. I'm more concerned with my ambitions as a developing human being; I see education as central to this development. Therefore, I think university has certainly contributed positively to the pursuit of my ambitions.”


He goes on to confirm his career ambitions now and in the long-term as “To continue to write/record/perform music and to do so as I explore other interests; these may include doctoral research into autonomous learning.”


Asked what advice he would pass on to current students he says, “Be patient and open-minded. Read. Listen. Share. Smile… Let nothing but your actions and interactions define you."
